Start the romance with a delicious cheese and wine pairing in front of a big fire at the scenic Anura Vineyards tasting room, which is located in the beautiful foothills of Simonsberg Mountain, and it has panoramic views overlooking vineyards, ponds and fynbos.
Follow this with a stroll, arm in arm, through the charming gardens of Babylonstoren before you stop for lunch in their specially adapted greenhouse. The Babylonstoren garden was inspired by the Company’s Gardens of the Cape, where for centuries ships would replenish with water, vegetables and fruit at the halfway station between Europe and Asia, and hails back to the mythical garden of Babylon. Spanning eight acres, every one of the over 300 varieties of plants in the garden is edible and the fruit and vegetables are harvested year round for use in their restaurants.
After a tasty lunch in the greenhouse, you will make your way to Muratie, a wonderfully charming and eclectic wine estate that dates back to 1685, making it one of the oldest estates in South Africa. Beyond being the perfect spot to cozy up by the fire and stock up on wonderful red wines and port, this farm is filled with stories of amorousness. Just ask about the story behind the female portrait hanging behind the tasting room bar, a face you may also recognize on the Muratie MCC, a woman known as Lady Alice.
You will then treat your senses with a chocolate and wine pairing at your final stop, the majestic Waterford Wine Estate, a stately farm in the Stellenbosch winelands. Kevin Arnold and Chocolatier Richard von Geusau have created a series of dark and milk chocolates that, when paired with our Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Natural Sweet wines will take you on the ultimate aphrodisiac adventure.
